An 18th celebration.

October 12, 2017

Well its been a busy week, frustrating and rewarding. It started with the phrase 'And pigs might fly'. My idea was a pig flying in an old plane, my girlfriends - a pig wearing Da Vinci style wings about to fly - I went with mine. Now, a good idea sometimes does not lead to a good painting and I learnt this with a lot of hair pulling (not that I have a lot of hair).  Long story short, after many failed attempts and a lot of expensive paper in the bin, I gave up and went for my girlfriend's idea, which was a roaring success! Thank you Nicky.

This Saturday sees the 18th birthday of my youngest and she has a fascination with all things elephant, so this week I also painted her her birthday present. Initially I was aiming for Nelly the elephant leaving the circus, but it is not in-keeping with my love of phrases. After a little research I found - 'As large as life and twice as handsome'. With a bit of jiggling its now 'As large as life and as twice as pretty'. Here's the initial sketch, through to watercolor. The typo has not been added yet.

So, I'm hoping my daughter wont read this until Saturday and if she does .... Well - "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!" xxxxxx
